“Time is Like Cherry Soup” Places 1st!

I am so excited to share that I have placed first in Sad Girls Club Lit’s Spring 2023 poetry contest! My poem was one of over 400 poems to be submitted.

It can feel like a shot in the dark every time you send out a piece of writing for a mysterious group of “others” to judge. Whether it’s an online literary journal, a print magazine, a letter to the editor, or anything else, it’s an anxiety-inducing experience. Getting anything other than a form rejection can feel like a miracle!

It can be difficult not to attribute gains in your career to random chance. I think it’s important to remember that hard work and honing of a craft takes time. Patience and dedication will trump circumstances eventually; though a fair bit of luck and timing can also prove instrumental for some of the biggest successes! :)
